Container throughput in the first quarter (January-March) of 2013 at the world’s three leading container ports was recently unveiled.

The Port of Shanghai in China was the busiest container port in the world, where container lifting was steady, increasing 3.6% year on year to 7.807 million TEUs.

Shanghai was followed by the Port of Singapore, which handled 7.635 million TEUs, increasing a slight 1.3%.

The Port of Hong Kong came in third place, but container throughput remained on a downward trend, decreasing 4.6% to 5.431 million TEUs.
