The Drewry World Container Index (WCI) rose 3% from the previous week  to $3,549 per FEU in Week 24 due to rate increases on the trans-Pacific and Asia–Europe trade routes. The index stayed flat year on year. Drewry has received confirmation from multiple sources that this year's peak season began earlier than usual, which is supporting stronger demand and higher freight rates.

On the trans-Pacific trade route, spot rates climbed again last week, with those from Shanghai to New York rising 7% ($365) to $5,870 per FEU and from Shanghai to Los Angeles, 3% ($118) to $4,683 per FEU.

On the Asia–Europe trade route, spot rates increased last week amid early peak season demand. Freight rates from Shanghai to Rotterdam rose 5% ($189) to $3,768 per FEU, and those from Shanghai to Genoa edged up 1% ($50) to $5,139 per FEU.
