The latest data from U.K.-based Container Trades Statistics (CTS) show that westbound container traffic from Asia to Europe increased 2.5% from the same period in 2012 to 1.3 million TEU, achieving a year-on-year increase in volumes for the first time in almost a year.
The last month in which volumes increased on the westbound trade was February 2012, when the westbound volume rose 7.7% year on year to 91 1,200 TEUs.
The favorable growth in January is alleged to be attributable to Chinese New Year celebrations.
