The throughput of containerized shipments accounted for 38.6% of the total, as Japan exported 1,004,845 units last year. The share shrank by a minute 0.5 percentage points from a year earlier, when it was 39.1%.

The International Auto Trade Association (iATA) said that more containers were used for shipments bound for Tanzania, Uganda and other African nations than 2011.
