The Japanese government has agreed with Mozambique, under which Japan will provide a loan of as much as 7,889 million yen for the first phase of the development of the Mozambican port of Nacala. The agreement was signed in Mozambique's capitol of Maputo on Monday.

The first phase includes enlarging the container terminal by reclamation to expand its container handling capacity from the current 89,000 containers to 240,000 containers a year.

The period of redemption of the loans with an interest rate of 0.01% per annum will be 40 years including a period of deferment not exceeding 10 years.
