International container traffic via the Trans-Siberian railway totaled 638,216 TEUs in 2012, representing a strong 15.4% increase over the previous year, according to the Coordinating Council on Trans-Siberian Transportation, a non-commercial transport association founded by the Ministry of Railway Communication of the Russian Federation (since 2003 ? after the restructuring ? JSC Russian Railways), DB AG (Deutsche Bahn), GETO (Association of European Transsiberian Operators), and KIFFA (Korean International Freight Forwarders Association).

Imports rose 4.7% from a year before to 280,407 TEUs while exports registered a 6.7% year-on-year increase to 255,715 TEU.
It's worth noting that transit traffic jumped by 123.9% to 102,094 TEUs in 2012.

The Russia - China railway was the busiest hauling 346,238 TEUs, up 14% year on year, followed by the Russia - Korea route with 103,252 TEUs, up 31% and the Russia - Japan route with 42,301 TEUs, up 13%.
