Japan International Freight Forwarders Association (JIFFA) held briefing sessions on a multi-carrier shipping information platform on Jan. 30, 2013, inviting representatives from three global shipping portal service providers as presenters.

For non-vessel-operating common carriers (NVOCCs) and freight forwarders that provide international multimodal transport services, it is inevitable to use personal computers and other information technology (IT) devices as well as e-mail, Internet and other data communication services. They are also very important tools to offer higher-grade value-added services.

On top of that, NVOCCs and forwarders are faced with various challenges, such as reducing transport management costs, improving operations, investing in IT infrastructure and winning contracts from new customers.

At the seminar, the three major global shipping portal service providers ? CargoSmart of Hong Kong, GT Nexus, Inc. of California and INTTRA of New Jersey ? delivered presentations on their respective cloud-based supply chain platforms, briefing what advantages users can obtain through using their services, which visualize supply chains via the cloud computing technology.

JIFFA held a similar seminar in Osaka on Jan. 29.
