Container throughput at Hong Kong amounted to 1.9 million TEUs in September, a year-on-year decline of 2.4 percent from the two million TEUs in September last year, according to statistics from the Hong Kong Marine Department. The September figure marks a decline for six straight months. In the first nine months, the port handled 17.51 million TEUs, down 3.9% from the same period in 2011.

Shenzhen ports in Guandong Province enjoyed a year-on-year increase of 11.6 percent in container throughput in September, to 2.153 million TEUs, the highest monthly figure for September. Yantian International Container Terminal handled 1.063 million TEUs, up 16.7% from a year earlier while throughput at Shekou and Chiwan combined totaled 1.028 million TEUs, up 7.8% year on year.
