Container volume handled at the Port of Los Angeles rose 5.6 percent to 744,923 TEUs in September, the highest total since August 2010. Imports rose 3.4 percent from the same month in 2011 to 385,250 TEUs while exports declined 2.6 percent year on year to 172,432 TEUs.
Another South California port Long Beach suffered a 2.9 percent year-on-year decline in box traffic for September, handling 512,020 TEUs. Imports rose slightly by 0.7% to 265,102 TEUs while exports fell 5.8% from a year earlier to 114,902 TEUs.
