Shipping lines have been calling attention to their customers for the Resolution 2.239 of Brazilian Ministry of Transportation's National Agency of Maritime Transportation (ANTAQ) which approved the standard procedures for the safe transit of dangerous goods through the port facilities in Brazil.

Effective September 15, 2012, carriers and its agents are strictly required to present to Port Authorities the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), Dangerous Cargo Declaration (both in English or Portuguese) and Emergency Sheet (in Portuguese) for containers to be loaded or discharged at or in transit through the Brazilian Territory, 24 hours prior to vessel arrive at a Brazilian port.

The non-compliance with this resolution may generate delays in customs procedures and ship operations as well as fines and penalties against the carrier. Therefore, carriers urge their customers to provide the proper documentation to them in a bid to avoid trouble with discharging operations.
