The Port of Yokohama processed a total of 62.3 million tons of shipments in the first half (January-June) of 2012, increasing 5.5% from a year earlier, which was the first year-on-year growth in two years.

Oceangoing cargoes amounted to 39.97 million tons, improving 2%, and domestic cargoes, 22.32 million tons, 12.4%.

Regarding containerized shipments, exports remained nearly unchanged, going down a minute 0.9% to 728,931 TEUs.

By destination, exports to Southeast Asia were favorable; in particular, those to Thailand improved 7.2 %, coming in second place for the first time.

On the other hand, shipments to major partners were weak, with those to China decreasing 7%; South Korea, 8.4%; and the U.S., 14%.

Imports declined 2% to 1.37 million TEUs, as those from leading sources were slow, going down 3.2% to 640,696 TEUs in total. For example, those from China waned 4% and the U.S., 8.1%.
