Freight rates in China's export container transport market declined slightly. As of May 25, the Shanghai Containerized Freight was 1,408.81 points, down by 5.0% from April this year, according to a report by Shanghai International Shipping Research Institute (SISI).
The freight rate on the trade from Shanghai to Europe was $1,711 per TEU and to the Mediterranean $1,846 per TEU as of end May, declines by $177 and $131respectively from end April this year. Other trade routes also saw small declines in freight rates in May compared with the previous month excluding South America and Taiwan services. In the transpacific trade, the freight rate from Shanghai to the West Coast of the U.S. stood at $2,333 per TEU compared with $2,414 for April; and to East Coast of the U.S.$3,481 per TEU compared with $3,558 per TEU for the previous month.
