Argentina's Federal Administration of Public Revenue (AFIP) has published in the Official Gazette a new mechanism for importers known as the Advanced Sworn Statement on Imports (DJAI). The new scheme applicable to all imports for consumption will start from February 1, 2012 and aims to have a larger control on the nation's imports and thus protect the national industry and security.

Under the new regime, importers will be required to file a document with the AFIP electronically through its Website. The document must include such data as the importer's unique tax identification number known as the Clave Unica de Identification Tributaria (CUIT); FOB value; HS Code; type and amount of the merchandise; state of the merchandise; and the country of origin.
