The International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code Amendment 35-10 will officially take effect on January 1, 2012 under the umbrella of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974 (SOLAS). The amendments include five items including UN3166 (vehicle, fuel cell, flammable gas/liquid powered and vehicle, flammable gas/liquid powered, UN3171(vehicle, battery powered ) and UN3496 (batteries, nickel-metal hydride).

Japan revised the Regulations for the Carriage And Storage of Dangerous Goods in Ship incorporating the Amdt. 35-10 on January 1, 2011, one year ahead of the official schedule.

The IMDG Code, which is adopted by the International Maritime Organization's Maritime Safety Committee, sets out the requirements applicable to handling dangerous goods and marine pollutants in sea transport.
