Mutual recognition of the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) system between Japan and South Korea will start from November 1, 2011. This means that certified companies in both countries can expect fewer controls in customs clearance procedures.

The agreement between Japan and South Korea as part of secure AEO certification was signed in May 2011. Under the arrangement, customs authorities of the two countries will reflect the risk analysis of the status of AEO traders in clearing exported or imported goods of respective AEO traders on the other end. They will also respect the status of AEO traders on other end in the application of various security requirements.
