Saudi Arabia's Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) recently has announced that a temperature monitoring device be placed and activated inside all containers loaded with pharmaceutical products from the time of departure at the place of origin until its arrival to Saudi Arabia.

The quality and effectiveness of drug and safety conditions of stored medicines plays a critical role. The announcement aims to reduce the number of rejected shipments in to the county.

The enforcement of this system applies to all air, sea and land transports, to be carried out in two phases:

Phase I: For shipments of medicines that require storage conditions at a temperature range of +2°C to +8°C it will become effective from March 1, 2011.

Phase II: For all shipments of medicines other than above it will become effective from June 1, 2011.
