Japan and Indonesia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on economic development cooperation in Bali, Indonesia last week. The MoU falls under the Metropolitan Priority Area (MPA) program, and aims to build up infrastructure in Indonesia's urban areas and encourage Japanese investment for the project, in a bid to ''unfold the potential'' of Indonesia.

The main focus of the plan is improving conditions in the international ports and the cluster of industrial parks located at the east of Jakarta, and developing mass transportation network and a Metropolitan airport, including upgrading the relevant infrastructure, with a top priority given to Jabodetabek (the metropolitan area including Jakarta, Bekasi, Bogor, Depok and Tangerang).
