In October 2010, 261,488 TEUs of containers were traded between Japan and China, an increase of 1% from a year earlier, according to the Shipping Conference and General Administration (SCAGA).
The monthly throughput represented growth from a month earlier too, when it suffered a year-on-year decrease for the first time in 11 months.
Slight improvements were achieved in both directions, with exports from Japan to China going up 1.6% to 89,815 TEUs and imports, 0.7% to 171,673 TEUs.
On an accumulated scale, container shipments on the Japan/China trade amounted to 2,426,755 TEUs from January to October 2010, rising 7% from the corresponding 10 months of 2009, the SCAGA added.
In breakdown, exports from Japan to China accounted for 837,626 TEUs, up 8.6%, and imports, 1,589,129 TEUs, up 6.1%.
Compared to what they were in the first 10 months of 2008, exports improved 0.8%, but imports declined 8.5%.
The total volume of exports and imports were down 6.2%.
