Container volumes between 12 Asian countries and territories (Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, China and South Korea) totaled 1.043 million TEUs in July, representing a 4.1, the lowest percentage gain this year, compared with 1.002 million TEUs for the same month in 2009.

Exports from Japan to the Asian nations and territories rose slightly by 1.9% from a year earlier to 185,000 TEUs while Japan's containerized imports marked a 5.6% gain to 201,000 TEUs.

For the first seven months of the year, intra-Asia box traffic achieved a 14.0% increase from the same period last year to 7.377 million TEUs. Japan's exports for the period surged 14.6% year on year to 1.357 million TEUs and its imports increased 9.7% from a year earlier to 1.419 million TEUs.
