The China Containerized Freight Index released by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange on Friday rose 2.3 points from the previous week to 1,081.67 points, thanks to continuing strong export demands. The new Shanghai Containerized Freight Index also increased 3.2 points to 1,377.2 points last week, setting a record high.

On the trades from Shanghai to Europe and the Mediterranean, the basic freight rates including additional shipping charges stood at US$2,068 per TEU and $1,947 per TEU, up $76 and $48 respectively.

On the transpacific trades, the basic freight rates were $2,061 per FEU for cargo bound for the U.S West Coast and $3,132 per FEU for cargo bound for the U.S. East Coast, up $73 and $51 from the previous week, respectively.

On the China ? Japan route, the freight index showed a slight increase of 1.9 point to 709.44 points last week.
