Port Metro Vancouver will implement certain restrictions on dangerous goods operations during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games from February 12 through February 28, though ocean traffic to or from Vancouver will be generally unaffected.

Leading up to and during the Games, there will be controls on the transportation of dangerous goods by water, road and rail, particularly adjacent to Olympic venues. These controls, implemented by the Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit and Transport Canada, will have limited impacts on port operations overall during the Olympics and mostly will be limited to the Vancouver Downtown Core. While Centerm and Vanterm container terminals are included in this zone, a different set of restrictions applies to these two terminals.

The following categories of dangerous goods will not be permitted at Centerm and Vanterm container terminals between January 26 and March 4, 2010:

- dangerous goods that require an Emergency Response Assistance Plan (ERAP) under Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations;
- Class 1 explosives in hazard divisions 1.1, 1.2 and 1.5; and
- Class 7 radioactive materials.

For business critical deliveries, the Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit and Transport Canada may consider exemptions to the above restrictions. Shipping agents may contact Port Metro Vancouver for assistance with this process.

Deltaport, the largest container terminal which handles more than half of the containerized cargo through Port Metro Vancouver, remains unaffected.
