Container shipments between ten Asian countries and territories (Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia) excluding mainland China and South Korea amounted to 5.329 million TEUs in 2009, down 3% compared with 5.494 million TEUs in the previous year.
Of the total, containerized imports to Japan from these nine economies fell 2.9% from a year earlier to 1.221 million TEUs, while exports from Japan to the Asian regions showed a double-digit drop of 13.1% to 1.216 million TEUs.
