26.05.25WCI Increases 6% in Week 21
The Drewry World Container Index (WCI) increased 6% from the previous week to $2,712 per FEU in Week 21, mainly due to higher freight rates on the Asia-Europe trade route. From a year earlier, it was up 19%.
On the Asia-Europe trade route, spot rates increased, supported by early peak season demand and higher freight-all-kinds (FAK) levels. Freight rates from Shanghai to Rotterdam surged 15% ($360) to $2,773 per FEU, and those from Shanghai to Genoa jumped 10% ($381) to $4,082 per FEU.
On the trans-Pacific trade route, rates increased slightly. Freight rates from Shanghai to New York grew 2% ($65) to $4,317 per FEU, and those from Shanghai to Los Angeles rose 1% ($28) to $3,385 per FEU.
