The Port of Tokyo exported and imported a total of 337,038 TEUs of containers in January, up 2% year on year, according to preliminary statistics unveiled by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG)’s Bureau of Port and Harbor. The total consisted of 245,991 TEUs of loaded containers, up 3.7%, and 91,047 TEUs of empty containers, down 2.3%.
As for exports, 52,353 TEUs were loaded containers, up 24.4%, and 90,414 TEUs were empty, down 1.1%. Looking at imports, 193,638 TEUs were loaded, down 0.7%, and 633 TEUs were empty, down 63.2%.
Domestic containers totaled 40,527 TEUs up 14.5%. Overall throughput was made up of 263,084 TEUs of loaded containers, up 3.8%, and 114,482 TEUs of empty containers, up 2%.
