The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan’s Ports and Harbours Bureau recently raised the carbon neutral port (CNP) certificate of the Port of Nagoya’s Nabeta Pier Container Terminal from Level 3++ to Level 4++, according to the Nagoya Port Authority.

The Ports and Harbours Bureau launched a CNP certification program in fiscal 2025 (April 2025-March 2026). In September 2025, Nabeta Pier Container Terminal became the first certificate recipient (Level 3++).

Nabeta Pier Container Terminal had completed the replacement of gantry cranes with low-carbon units so that all of its gantry cranes are now inverter-controlled. Nagoya United Container Terminal (NUCT), which runs berths at Nabeta Pier Container Terminal, had applied for a certification upgrade. The terminal operator received the higher certification (Level 4++), becoming the first-ever party to do so in Japan.
