The Drewry World Container Index (WCI) fell 1% from the previous week to $1,899 per FEU in Week 9 for the seventh consecutive week of decline due to a decrease in rates on the trans-Pacific and Asia–Europe trade routes. From a year earlier, the index was down 28%.

Spot rates on the Asia–Europe trade continued to decline, with those from Shanghai to Rotterdam falling 1% to $2,094 per FEU and from Shanghai to Genoa, 2% to $2,826 per FEU. Volumes typically rebound in March as factories across Asia reopen, but rates are expected to remain under pressure due to rising capacity. Hence, Drewry expects spot rates on the trade to soften in the coming weeks.

Spot rates from Shanghai to Los Angeles decreased 1% to $2,191 per FEU, while those from Shanghai to New York remained stable at $2,771 per FEU. Spot rates stayed flat at $958 per FEU from New York to Rotterdam and slid 1% to $1,602 per FEU from Rotterdam to New York.
