Container exports from Asia to Europe amounted to 1.48 million TEUs in October, down 2.9%, incurring their first year-on-year contraction in eight months, according to statistics compiled by the Japan Maritime Center (JMC) from data provided by the U.K.’s Container Trades Statistics (CTS). In the first 10 months (January-October), they totaled 16.29 million TEUs.
In October, 209,641 TEUs were from Southeast Asia, up 0.4%, and 127,775 TEUs from Northeast Asia (other than China and Hong Kong), up 0.4%. On the other hand, exports from China and Hong Kong fell 3.8% to 1.14 million TEUs, leading to the decline on the trade.
By destination, 913,554 TEUs were destined to North Europe, down 4.1%; 272,656 TEUs from the Western Mediterranean, down 3.3%; and 294,512 TEUs from the Eastern Mediterranean, up 1.7%.
