U.S. container imports went down 5.4% month on month and 7.8% year on year in November, according to Descartes Systems Group. Seaports handled 2.18 million TEUs. Still, it was the fourth-strongest November on record-trailing 2020, 2021 and 2024-despite trade policy and economic uncertainty.

In the first 11 months (January-November), imports were 0.1% year on year, down from nearly 10% growth early this year, adding to signs of softer demand and more cautious ordering behavior.

Imports from China fell 11.3% month on month and 19.7% year on year to 713,131 TEUs in November. From the record of 1.02 million TEUs in July 2024, they were down 30.3%. They accounted for 32.7% of the total, down from 34.9% in October.

Imports from the top 10 countries of origin shrank 6.7%, or 110,410 TEUs month on month in November. Those from China plunged 11.3%, or 90,770 TEUs. As for imports from others, those from South Korea decreased 12.8%; from Hong Kong, 6.8%; from Indonesia, 7%; from India, 5.9%; from Japan, 8.4; and from Vietnam, 0.6%.
