The Port of Shimizu in central Japan handled 34,683 TEUs of foreign-trade containers on a preliminary basis in November, up 4.4% year on year, according to the Shizuoka Prefectural Government's Shimizu Port Authority.
As for full containers, 12,726 TEUs were exported, up 6.8%, and 16,717 TEUs were imported, up 4.4%, for a total of 29,443 TEUs, up 5.4%. Meanwhile, empty containers totaled 5,240 TEUs, down 1.1%.
Domestic containers amounted to 10,448 TEUs, up 16.9%, for a foreign-trade and domestics combined volume of 45,131 TEUs, up 7%, a year-on-year rise for two back-to-back months.
In the first 11 months (January-November), Shimizu processed 371,717 TEUs of foreign-trade containers, up 1.7%.
The port exported 138,391 TEUs of full containers, up 1.2%, and imported 181,232 TEUs, up 2.3%, while empties added up to 52,094 TEUs, up 1.1%.
Domestic containers numbered 100,377 TEUs, up 0.9%, making the total of foreign-trade and domestic container throughput 472,094 TEUs, up 1.6%.
