The Port of Tokyo handled 357,973 TEUs of foreign-trade containers in August, up 4.9% year on year, according to preliminary statistics compiled by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG)’s Bureau of Port and Harbor. Loaded containers accounted for 265,747 TEUs, up 4.9%, and empty containers, 92,226 TEUs, up 5%.

As for exports, 63,695 TEUs were loaded, down 0.3%, and 91,614 TEUs were empty, up 6.4%. Imports consisted of 202,052 TEUs of loaded containers, up 6.7%, and 612 TEUs of empty containers, down 64.2%.

In the first eight months (January-August), Tokyo exported 517,318 TEUs of loaded containers, down 4.8%, and 729,321 TEUs of empties, up 7.8%, and imported 1.57 million TEUs of loaded containers, up 6.6%, and 8,237 TEUs of empties, down 37.1%.
