The Port of Yokohama handled 1.36 million TEUs of oceangoing containers in the first half (January-June), up 0.8% year on year, according to preliminary statistics unveiled by the city of Yokohama’s Port and Harbor Bureau. Overall container throughput amounted to 1.53 million TEUs, up 2%. In breakdown, exports accounted for 740,016 TEUs, up 3.1%, and imports, 619,281 TEUs, down 1.9%, while domestic containers totaled 175,230 TEUs, up 12.7%.
In June alone, 279,248 TEUs were processed at Yokohama, up 7.8%, of which oceangoing containers picked up 5.9% to 245,138 TEUs in total. More specifically, exports jumped 9.2% to 137,301 TEUs, while imports increased a more modest 2.1% to 107,837 TEUs. Domestic containers surged 23.3% to 34,110 TEUs, registering a notable year-on-year expansion for two back-to-back months.
