Drewry's Intra-Asia Container Index (IACI) increased 5% in the first half of September to $611 per FEU, 9% lower than it was in September 2024. Drewry expects rates to remain stable in the second half.
During the period, spot rates amounted to $98 per TEU from Busan to Shanghai, unchanged; $39 per TEU from Ho Chi Minh City to Shanghai, unchanged; $35 per TEU from Jakarta to Shanghai, down 15%; $1,663 per TEU from Shanghai to Jawaharlal Nehru, up 17%; $767 per TEU from Shanghai to Singapore, up 4%; $922 per TEU from Shanghai to Tanjung Pelepas, down 10%; $761 per TEU from Shanghai to Yokohama, up 2%; and $77 per TEU from Yokohama to Shanghai, up 7%.
The IACI is a weighted average of spot rates on 18 major lanes within Asia that do not include terminal handling charges (THCs), which include those to and from four Northeast Asian nations (Japan, China, South Korea and Taiwan), five Southeast Asian nations (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam) and two Southwest Asian nations (India and the United Arab Emirates, or UAE). The index is unveiled every two weeks.
