The National Federation of Dockworkers Unions of Japan (Zenkoku Kowan) and the Japanese Confederation of Port and Transport Workers’ Unions (Koun Domei) confirmed on Tuesday that they will go forward to a new series of actions, staging a 24-hour strike on May 18 and every Sunday afterward and reject to work overtime indefinitely on and after May 19.

During their Tuesday meeting, Zenkoku Kowan and Koun Domei cancelled the 24-hour strike they were going to call this Saturday as part of their fourth series of actions. They also confirm the 24-hour strike on May 11, which they had informed, would be necessary to negotiate for major wage hikes, have The Japan Harbor Transportation Association (Nikkokyo) prepare answers to collective bargaining demands and promote relevant talks. Zenkoku Kowan and Koun Domei indicated they will maintain their stance to tenaciously negotiate and urge Nikkokyo to make decisions. They agreed they had entered a phase in which they will advance actions to address challenges that are in focus.

On top of them, Zenkoku Kowan and Koun Domei confirmed they will move on to their fifth series of actions, staging 24-hour strikes on Sundays from May 18 and refuse overtime work on and after May 19.
