The Keihin Port Office of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT)’s Kanto Regional Development Bureau has set aside budgets for fiscal 2025 business activities. For the redevelopment of the Port of Yokohama’s international marine container terminals, ¥25.29 billion (US$177 million) has been allocated, while ¥8.48 billion (US$60 million) will be spent on the construction of a port road linking Higashi Ogishima with Mizue-cho in Kawasaki.

At the Port of Yokohama, Honmoku Pier’s D-5 Container Terminal, which has a draft of 16 meters), will be upgraded, including work to make it earthquake-resistant. Its cargo sorting area will be removed from the container terminal, while road paving and soil stabilization will also be carried out. At BC-2 Container Terminal, which also measures 16 meters in draft, survey engineering work will be done for a 16-meter-draft channel and anchorage and another anchorage, which will have a similar draft. At Shin Honmoku Pier, an 18-meter-draft quay will be upgraded into an earthquake-resistant facility. Bank protection work will be conducted for wave resistance. Soil stabilization, groundwork and construction will be carried out on the cargo sorting area.

At the Port of Kawasaki, meanwhile, bridge construction will be made in Mizue-cho and elsewhere.
