The Port of Kitakyushu in southwestern Japan processed 38,179 TEUs of foreign-trade containers in October 2024, up 0.4% year on year, according to the Kitakyushu Seaport and Airport Bureau. Exports decreased 2.8% to 19,042 TEUs, but imports increased 3.7% to 19,137 TEUs. Domestic containers amounted to 10,246 TEUs, up 8.3%, for a total volume of 48,425 TEUs, up 2%.

Kitakyushu exported 480,000 tons of shipments by sea in October, up 0.9%, and imported 1.7 million tons, up 6.1%, for a total of 2.18 million tons, up 4.9%. Meanwhile, domestics shipments came to 6.94 million tons, up 6%, making the total volume of oceangoing shipments at the port 9.12 million tons, up 5.8%.

In the first 10 months (January-October), 349,078 TEUs of foreign-trade containers were moved to and from Kitakyushu, down 0.4%, of which 173,531 TEUs were exported, down 1.9%, and 175,547 TEUs were imported, up 1%. Domestic containers accounted for 85,297 TEUS, up 15.6%, for a total of 434,375 TEUs, up 2.3%.

As for marine cargo, 4.43 million TEUs were exported, down 8%, and 16.09 million tons were imported, down 0.2%, for a total of 20.52 million tons, down 2%. Domestic cargo weighed 63.03 million tons, and as such, the total came to 83.56 million tons, up 2.8%.
