25.02.18IACI Decreases 8% in H1 of Feb.
The Intra-Asia Container Index (IACI) decreased 8% to reach $667 per FEU in the first half of February, according to Drewry. Despite this decline, the IACI remained 33% higher than in the same period last year, indicating the ongoing strengthening of intra-Asian trade. However, Drewry forecasts that freight rates will continue to drop throughout February.
Spot rates decreased 3% to $109 per FEU from Busan to Shanghai, 2% to $44 per FEU from Ho Chi Minh City to Shanghai, 19% to $88 per FEU from Jakarta to Shanghai, 25% to $1,183 per FEU from Shanghai to Jawaharlal Nehru, 7% to $866 per FEU from Shanghai to Singapore, 2% to $1,127 per FEU from Shanghai to Tanjung Pelepas and 1% to $785 per FEU from Shanghai to Yokohama. Those from Yokohama to Shanghai remained unchanged at $7 per FEU.
The IACI is a weighted average of spot rates on 18 major lanes within Asia that do not include terminal handling charges (THCs), which include those to and from four Northeast Asian nations (Japan, China, South Korea and Taiwan), five Southeast Asian nations (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam) and two Southwest Asian nations (India and the United Arab Emirates). The index is unveiled every two weeks.
