The Port of Yokkaichi in central Japan designated a part of a commercial port near its Kasumigaseki District an area for promoting decarbonization on Wednesday. It was the first such designation ever made at a Japanese port. .
To achieve the goals set forth in the plan for promoting decarbonization, Yokkaichi will develop relevant facilities to help ships, cargo-handling equipment, trucks and so on to decarbonize and conduct verifications.
Yokkaichi does not allow storages for hazardous items to be constructed at the commercial port. Within the designated area, however, hazardous item storages and other facilities can be developed as long as they lead to accomplishing the goals.
