U.S. container imports from 10 major Asian countries and regions amounted to 1.89 million TEUs in July, based on volumes at port of origin, marking double-digit improvements of 12.2% from the previous month and 24.2% from the corresponding month of 2023, according to statistics compiled by Descartes Datamyne from data provided by the Customs and Border Protection (CBP). They have continued to increase year on year for 11 months in a row. Exceeding 1.85 million TEUs in May 2022, they hit a new monthly record. In the first seven month, the U.S. imported 11.38 million TEUs from Asia, up 17.5% from a year earlier.

Last month, shipment volumes grew almost all of the 10 economies. Containers from China swelled 23.1% to 1.11 million TEUs, holding the leading share of the pie. Ranked second and lower places were those from South Korea, which increased 26.7% to 2.22 million TEUs; from Vietnam, 43.6% to 195,123 TEUs; from Taiwan, 19.1% to 77,696 TEUs; and from Singapore, 13.1% to 74,541 TEUs. Imports from Japan finished in eighth, surging 32.6% to 39,273 TEUs.

In July, U.S. container imports totaled 2.57 million TEUs, up 18.3% year on year.
