An upgraded Cambodia National Single Window (CNSW) will be commenced on May 2 with eight new organizations added, according to the government of Cambodia, according to the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). The total number of organizations linked to the CNSW will rise to 13. Prime Minister Hum Manet has declared that Phnom Penh will complete the digitalization of customs formalities by 2028. The chambers of commerce from other countries, including Japan, has been demanding for a long time now that Cambodia simplify and digitalize its customs formalities. A one step forward has been taken to accommodate their request.
On Jan. 1, Cambodia began accepting applications for obtaining documents for export and import customs clearance through the Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA), a computerized system designed by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). Previously, traders were required to complete the formalities they need from making import declarations to receiving shipments both electronically and on paper. Now, they can be completed just by entering data electronically and making payments online.
From May, when traders export or import products that requires approvals or permissions, they will be granted as soon as applications are made.
The CNSW and the ASYCUDA have been linked with each other since 2016.
