When Indonesia’s Minister of Trade Regulation No. 25 of 2022 is revised, import requirements will be enhanced, leading to more strict import formalities. The nation’s Ministry of Trade held an online session last month to give a briefing on a revision of the regulation. The ministry did not specifically say when it will be revised, but did say final arrangements are being made now.

Currently, Harmonized System (HS) Codes stipulate import requirements in accordance with the regulation.

When the regulation is revised, specifically, it will be necessary to obtain import approvals. Some will be removed from the list of commodities subject to post-customs clearance inspections. As such, more items will need import approvals. Also, the number of commodities will increase for which declarations must be made at the time of custom clearance that import approvals are obtained.

In addition, several used items will be designated as prohibited imports. Also, the list of secondhand products that can be imported now will be reviewed.

The revised regulation will govern goods that are imported by those who have API-U and API-P numbers, meaning it will have an impact on many operators.
