Japan International Freight Forwarders Association (JIFFA)’s membership consisted of 548 enterprises and organizations as of June 1, an increase of 13, JIFFA Chairman Junichiro Watanabe (senior managing executive officer of Nissin) said last Thursday. The 548 was made up of 521 regular members and 27 supporting members (16 companies and 11 organizations). The growth of the association indicates that shippers are being globalized, highly appreciating international logistics, he said. JIFFA members are doing well, he added, citing that international multimodal cargo they moved in fiscal 2022 increased 0.7% from the previous fiscal year.

JIFFA will make arrangements and have talks with relevant governmental organizations to keep pace with the advancement of NACCS, CyberPort, electronic B/Ls and other efforts, Watanabe said. As for the so-called “2024 issue” (when overtime restrictions are implemented next year in Japan, it is projected that driver shortages will become severer), JIFFA will strive to address the most important challenge, securing drivers, in partnership with shippers and transporters, as the association alone cannot overcome it, he said. Specifically, JIFFA will work positively to raise the efficiency of drayage with CONPAS, an information system developed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), he said.
