The composite China Containerized Freight Index (CCFI) averaged 944.98 points in April, down 5.3% from the previous month. In contrast, the composite Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) improved 9.9% to an average of 1,006.85 points. Freight rates continued to fall in the first half of the month but turned upward in the second half, according to an analysis report on container exports from China compiled by the nation’s transport ministry.

The average CCFIs stood at 1,180.93 points on the route to Europe, down 7.3%, and 1,681.94 points to the Mediterranean, down 5.2%. On the trade to North America, the CCFIs came to 703.28 points to the west coast on average, down 4.2%, and 910.07 points to the east coast, down 14.3%. In contrast, the average SCFIs jumped 29.7% on the route to the west coast and 13.1% to the east coast. The CCFIs averaged 693.13 points on the trade to Australia and New Zealand, down 16.1%, and 629.59 points to South America, up 5.9%. The CCFI on the route to Japan fell 4.5% to 889.31 points.
