The Ningbo Containerized Freight Index (NCFI) averaged 722.9 points in April, surging 13.9% from a month earlier but plunged 78.9% from a year earlier, according to the Ningbo Shipping Exchange (NBSE). On the 21 trade lanes to which the index is applied, there were index increased on 11 and decreased on the remaining 10. On the routes to the 16 major ports on the so-called Maritime Silk Road, there were index increases on those to nine and decreases to the remaining seven.

Spot rates for container exports from Ningbo to Europe fluctuated modestly at low levels in April. They increased in a small range early in the month due to a shortage of space. Late in the month, they returned to levels before rises in late March on the routes to Europe and the western Mediterranean.
