The Japan Harbor Transportation Association (Nikkokyo) met with the National Federation of Dockworkers Union of Japan (Zenkoku Kowan) and the Japanese Confederation of Port and Transport Workers' Unions (Koun Domei) for the second time in their 2023 spring wage negotiations on Wednesday. Nikkokyo would not respond to requests for the industry-wide minimum wage, as by doing so, it might very well run afoul of the Anti-Monopoly Act, although the association did respond to almost all of the other requests.

As for substantial wage hikes demanded by unions, the most important issue in the ongoing wage negotiations, Nikkokyo said that it will make efforts again this year to secure appropriate rates so that smooth wage increases will be advanced. It added that it is considering submitting written requests to shipping companies as it did last year.

Zenkoku Kowan and Koun Domei indicated that they will come up with future policies while looking at wage hike developments.

They are scheduled to meet next time at 1:30 p.m. on March 28.
