Container exports from 10 major Asian countries and regions to the U.S. plunged 23.2% to 1,310,380 TEUs in December (based on volumes at ports of origin), which have decreased year on year for five months in a row, Descartes Datamyne has said in reference to Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) and bill-of-lading (B/L) data provided by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The U.S.' imports, meanwhile, totaled 1,944,096 TEUs, which plummeted 19.3% and have suffered a year-on-year contraction for four months running.

Containers from Asia to the U.S. mostly decline year on year in December. Those from China sank 30.1% to 736,523 TEUs, which have incurred a double-digit decrease for the fourth consecutive month, but managed to account for the largest part of the pie. Ranked second place were those from South Korea, which shrank 5.4% to 151,662 TEUs. Those from Taiwan slid 8% to 77,240 TEUs, finishing in fourth. In contrast, exports from Vietnam improved 7.8% to 123,741 TEUs and came in third place, while those from Japan jumped 36.2% to 33,523 TEUs, taking the No. 7 spot.
