Container exports from Japan to the U.S. amounted to 50,591 TEUs in October (based on volumes at ports of origin), which improved 5.6% from September and 15.8% from October 2021, according to Descartes Datamyne.

Containers directly moved accounted for 28,918 TEUs, up 9.7% year on year. Accounting for 42.8% of the total, the remaining 21,673 TEUs were transshipped on the way, up 25.1%, which have exceeded the 20,000-TEU line for eight months in a row. The surge in transshipment containers contributed to the overall growth, the global trade database indicates, adding that there were no signs of Japan's exports coming back.

South Korea was responsible for 14,328 TEUs of the transshipment containers, up 15.8%; China, 2,827 TEUs, up 24.6%; Taiwan, 2,200 TEUs, up 58.7%; and Singapore, 1,223 TEUs, up 17.5%.

In Japan, Tokyo exported 13,137 TEUs, up 19.1%, holding the largest share of the pie. Those from Nagoya came to 7,918 TEUs, down 8.7%; Kobe, 6,470 TEUs, down 26.9%; Yokohama, 839 TEUs, down 23.6%; and Shimizu, 485 TEUs, up 31.4%.
