Container exports from 10 major economies in Asia to the U.S. plunged 18% to 1.49 million TEUs in October (based on volumes at ports of origin), which have registered a year-on-year contraction for three months in a row, according to Descartes Datamyne. In January-October, they amounted to 17.02 million TEUs, which decreased 0.5% from a year earlier.

Imports to the U.S. that included those from non-Asian countries and regions totaled 2.21 million TEUs, down 11.8%, of which containers from Asia accounted for 70%.

Inbound containers from the U.S. to the 10 Asia economies shrank 1% to 408,286 TEUs in September (based on volumes at ports of destination). In January-September, they fell 6.3% to 4.08 million TEUs.
