NX Logistics Research Institute and Consulting said late last month that the freight movement indices for exports and imports of oceangoing containers and international airfreight all turned negative in April-June.

Holding a press conference last Friday, the think tank from the Nippon Express (NX) group unveiled the results of survey that it conducted in June on short-term corporate logistics developments. In July-September, it indicated the indices will all improve from the previous term, projecting the index for oceangoing container imports will turn positive, although the others will remain negative.

Questionnaires were distributed in early June among 2,500 major manufacturers and wholesalers, 765 of which responded. The indices are made by subtracting the percentage of business operators answering decreases in freight movement from the percentage of those answering increases.
