The European Parliament (EP) rejected the report on the revision of the European Union Emission Trading System (EU-ETS) by 340 votes to 265 with 34 abstentions. The report, which was adopted on May 17 by the EP's Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI), includes a proposal to include oceangoing shipping in the system. The report indicates the EU-ETS will cover 100% of emissions on the intra-Europe trade in and after 2024. On the routes outside Europe, 50% of emissions will be governed in 2024-2026 and 100% in and after 2027, according to the report. The draft legislation on the ETS reform has been sent back to ENVI now.
