The Port of Shimizu processed 44,449 TEUs of containers in May, down 3.7% from the same month of 2021, according to a preliminary report compiled by the Shizuoka Prefectural Government's Shimizu Port Authority. International shipments decreased 8.7% to 35,585 TEUs, suffering a year-on-year contraction for two back-to-back months. Loaded containers decreased in both directions, with exports shrinking 5.8% to 14,446 TEUs and imports, 5.1% to 17,724 TEUs. In total, they fell 5.4% to 32,170 TEUs. Meanwhile, empties totaled 3,415 TEUs, down 31.3%. Domestic shipments, in contrast, turned upward, surging 23.6% to 8,864 TEUs.
